Not to be confused with Autonomous, this tech savvy German boutique started in 2012 , formed by a group of academics. Those of us used to using the TomTom platform will understand how important the mobile network is going to be in order to drive (forgive the pun) a reliable connection. This acquisition follows the trend of larger tech companies buying up the start ups in order to gain IP and a head start in the hot autonomous car market.
Navigation and mapping company TomTom — which provides data to companies like Uber and Apple as well as for its own GPS systems — has made an acquisition to add more autonomous driving technology to its platform. It has acquired Autonomos, a Berlin startup that has worked in R&D consultancy for various self-driving projects out of Germany. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
